How to fix Face ID on iPhone 13?
After changing the screen of iPhone 13, "Important Display Information" pops up, and it is found that Face ID is not available, let's see how to fix it.
Because the iPhone 13 screen doesn't include a floodlight module, and all parts of the TrueDepth system are installed in the iPhone itself, it's possible that the chip on the original screen already holds Face ID data, and transferring the chip to the new screen may solve the problem .
First we disassemble the phone and try to replace the screen with an original genuine one. Remove the original screen and use a heat gun to remove the sensor flex cable. Be careful not to damage the flex cable when removing it.
Then connect the removed sensor cable to the new screen, and install the screws to connect the new screen. "Important Display Information" appears when the phone is turned on. Unable to set Face ID, True Tone disappears.
Next, we try to transfer the IC on the original screen to the new screen. Remove the new screen. To prevent scratches on the screen during operation, put a protective film on the screen.
Then heat the screen flex cable with a heat gun. Gently pull up on the flex cable. To protect the screen, insert a ball template under the flex cable for insulation. Attach high temperature tape and use a heat gun to remove the black adhesive around the chip.
Apply some medium temperature solder paste on top. Clean the pads with a soldering iron and solder wick at 360 °C. Proceed to clean the pads with the PCB cleaning tool.
Next, take out the chip on the original screen. Clean the tin on the original screen chip and apply some medium temperature solder paste on the pad. Use a solder wick to remove the tin and black adhesive from the die pads. Then clean the pads with a PCB cleaning tool.
Next place the ball stencil in place and apply an even layer of medium temperature solder paste. Heat with a heat gun to form solder balls. After the solder balls are formed, clean with a PCB cleaner.
Apply Paste Flux to the pads of the new screen. Aim at the original screen chip and solder the chip with a hot air gun.
Wait until the flex cable cools and remove the high temperature tape. Connect the screen, turn on the phone, there is no "important display information", Face ID can be set up and works fine, but True Tone has not returned.
Apple has long faced criticism for making it difficult for third-party repair shops and suppliers to fix and service their products. With the launch of the iPhone 13, Apple further makes it harder for customers to get repairs from third-party stores.
